There are different ways to set out your articles on the front page in Joomla.
You could have them read in columns ,
like a newspaper , or in blocks or one after the other like a blog. Its
up to you. You can change this in menu>> mainmenu >> home
settings in the Joomla Backend.
Now , say I wanted to tease my users with this introduction text , and have them sign up if they want to read more.

This is some extra text which can
only be read by certain users.You can assign part of an article or the
whole article to certainaccess level groups or even individual members.
Members can be automatically added to these groups on sign up .
Users can be required to pay before
they sign up -- and there are many different payment processors
available such as PayPal, Authorise.net and others.
