IPHONE SKINS, SLEEVES and CASES:
A COMPARATIVE BUYING GUIDE
iSKIN's REVO
Selling for around $40, iSkin's Revo is currently the
priciest silicone iPhone skin, but it does offer several unique features. The
Revo is available in black silicone, with a choice of aqua (rah), maize
(mojave), pink (zahra), deep red (diablo), purple (blade), or black (nighthawk)
accents.
The Revo leaves iPhone's touchscreen exposed, while
protecting iPhone’s vulnerable surfaces. The case's corners and sides are
thicker, providing extra shock protection. The Revo does make your iPhone
bulkier, but that bulkiness offers superior protection. And the Revo's lightly
textured silicone offers a great "grip."
The Revo includes cut-outs for the speaker, camera lens,
microphone, dock-connector port, and the Ring/Silent switch. A sturdy rubber
flap protects iPhone’s headphone jack. The case conceals the Volume, Home, and
Sleep/Wake buttons, though tactile ridges allow you to feel the controls
through the case.
The Revo ships with three accessories...
1) A clear, scratch-resistant, polycarbonate shield called
ViSOR, which clips into the Revo's side grooves, protecting iPhone’s touchscreen.
The ViSOR presses flush while you’re using iPhone.
2) A silicone Port Cover, which plugs into iPhone’s
dock-connector port.
3) A privacy film which keeps others from being able to view
iPhone’s screen when you're using iPhone in close quarters. The screen is clear
when viewed head-on, but if iPhone is angled 25 - 50 degrees, the screen blurs
and darkens.
iSkin also offers the $20 add-on revoClip for attaching
iPhone to your belt.
PDO's REVISO
The $30 Reviso is a use-in-place iPhone case. The case,
which includes an integrated metal belt clip, is constructed of soft black
leather. The back side of Reviso features a dual racing stripe in your choice
of red, white, or blue. The top of the case secures with a Velcro strap.
Reviso ships with a clear film touchscreen protector. This
film doesn’t impede use of iPhone’s touchscreen and it's easily removable. Just
slide a credit card under the film's edge, and it peels right off.
Reviso also includes cut-outs for the dock-connector and camera
lens.
The Reviso case provides excellent protection for an iPhone.
The included screen protector is a particularly nice touch.
SPECK CASES and HOLSTERS
ToughSkin
Many iPhone users are biased against skin cases because they
make iPhone bulkier, yet offer less shock protection than other cases. But
Speck's ToughSkin is an impressively notable exception.
ToughSkin has a thicker skin than other silicone skin cases,
and offers a great grip. Its extra-rubbery "bumpers" offer adequate
shock protection for iPhone's sides and corners. If you accidentally drop
iPhone or bang it against something, odds are pretty good that it'll emerge
without a scratch.
ToughSkin also offers a rigid rear insert to protect
iPhone's back, as well as hard plastic covers to protect your touchscreen and
Click Wheel. The Click Wheell cover swivels to allow access to iPhone's
controls.
ToughSkin includes a removable 360-degree swivel belt
clip-stand holster combo, which will allows iPhone to stand both vertically and
horizontally. iPhone can face in or out of the holster.
Priced at around $30, ToughSkin provides superior shock
protection, while allowing access to iPhone's controls.
TechStyle Holster-Pro
Speck's TechStyle Holster-Pro is a minimalistic black
leather holster with a sturdy brushed metal clip. Like ToughSkin, the TechStyle
Holster Pro can face in or out of the holster.
The stand-flap is secured with Velco, which easily
un-Velcros to allow iPhone to stand up. A connecting ribbon prevents the flap
from overextending itself. Speck boasts that the TechStyle Holster-Pro looks
"classic, svelte and intriguing on your pants."
TechStyle Holster-Pro is priced at around $30.
iPHONE CASES FROM INCIPIO
Incipio's iPhone cases provide adequate protection at
reasonable prices.
The Incipio line has been expanded to include 10 models:
Hipster, Bikini, Executive, Orion, Silicrylic, DermaShot, The Ranger,
alphaPouch, BoxFrame, EcoCase. The names are apt descriptions of each model's
style.
Orion
Incipio’s $20 Orion is an open-topped, sleeve-pouch-style
case, designed to protect a traveling iPhone, but be removed while iPhone is
being used.
Constructed of a leather-like material, Orion features a
soft, micro-suede liner. It’s available in black, olive, royal blue, white,
pink, burnt orange, camouflage and chocolate brown.
Snug-fitting Orion features Incipio’s EasyReach system, a
strap which is secured to the inside bottom-front of the case. The EasyReach
strap helps pull iPhone into the case during insertion, and helps ease it out
of the case during extraction.
Since Orion covers iPhone's speaker, the ring is muffled.
You may find that you need to adjust your ring volume while iPhone is wearing
Orion.
Executive
The Executive features a clamshell loading design. The
exterior is soft leather, covering a rigid interior plastic frame. The
Executive includes a removable belt clip and cut-outs for easy access to
iPhone's controls. Priced at $30, Executive is available in red, black, burnt
orange, chocolate, white, pink, camouflage.
Silicrylic
Silycrylic's precision-molded exterior is constructed of a
durable silicone material and a hard casing crystal armor, providing excellent
protection for vulnerable iPhone surfaces. Priced at $30, Silicrylic is
available in ink, mercury, black, berry red.
Bikini
Bikini, as Incipio likes to boast, includes only "the
bare essentials." With a unique design that imitates a skinny two-piece
bathing suit, Bikini is constructed of high-quality leather.
Priced at $20, Bikini is available in fifteen colors: black,
dark purple, blueberry, cafe latte, forest green, army ranger, soft blue, randy
red, safety orange, olive green, white, steel gray, chocolate and argyle.
Hipster
Hipster, Incipio claims, is "cool, slim and ready for
action." Hipster's exterior is constructed of high-quality leather; its
interior is lined with soft black embossed micro suede. The case features a
Magnetic Flip Strap. Hipster ships with a belt clip and 2 mini-pouches to carry
memory cards.
Priced at $20, Hipster is available in black, red, pink,
gray and white.
dermaShot
dermaShot is an anti-slip case, constructed of durable
silicone. dermShot is a precision-molded
case, curved to hug iPhone's shape so that you can feel iPhone's controls.
Priced at $13, dermaShot is available in clear blue, pure
white, clear white, berry, burnt orange, camouflage, clear pink, black, smoke
gray and sunflower yellow.
Ranger
Ranger's exterior is constructed of premium-quality leather
and nylon; it's lined with soft, embossed micro suede. The case features a

boxFrame
boxFrame is an open-faced design which is constructed of
black resin and shaped, as the name suggests, like a Box Frame. boxFrame's belt
clip is painted with soft-touch paint to prevent marring iPhone, and it rotates
to allows multiple wear positions.
boxFrame features and easy-access tab which allows quick
release of your iPhone.
Priced at $25, boxFrame is available in black.
alphaPouch
alphaPouch is a lightweight, minimalistic holster case
design that features a soft lining which both cleans and protects iPhone's
touchscreen.
Priced at $15, alphaPouch is available in black.
ecoCase
ecoCase is a slim canvas holster case design that features a
soft lining which both cleans and protects iPhone's touchscreen. Its
minimalistic, single-piece style is lightweight and organic.
Priced at $20, ecoCase is available in the brownish, organic
tone "canvas."
Incipio also offers $13 3-Packs of Screen Protectors, film
overlays which adhere to iPhone's touchscreen. The Screen Protectors repel dust
